The Problem: Capillary Rising Moisture
In order to prevent capillary rising damp, a horizontal barrier layer is installed under the contact surface of the masonry during the new construction phase, for example in the form of a bitumen sheet or by applying a sealing slurry. This barrier layer is colloquially called a "horizontal barrier" or, according to the DIN designation, "cross-sectional waterproofing". If such a capillary-breaking horizontal barrier is missing, defective or incorrectly arranged, the capillary rising damp will cause visible damp damage such as dark discolouration or damp-related stains on wall surfaces close to the ground. In addition, the rising damp transports building-damaging salts into the masonry and wall plaster. This results in flaking paint and plaster and even destruction of the masonry.
Horizontal barrier with specialized paraffin
An overview of our approach
The cause: rising damp
If the horizontal barrier is damaged or even lacking, capillary moisture may enter into the masonry and charge the pores of the construction material with water. This may cause paint and plaster chipping as well as the reduction of the thermal insulation coefficient.
Our approach at a glance
01 Drilling
The affected section of the masonry first needs to dry completely. For this purpose, we create drilling channels at intervals of 10-12 cm into the damp masonry.
02 Drying out
We control the drying phase of the masonry with the help of our unique technology. After the drying has been finished, the pores of the construction material are completely receptive to our sealing material, the ISOTEC Specialized Paraffin.
03 Inject
We inject our heated liquid ISOTEC Specialized Paraffin into the construction material where it extends into the pores of the material. When the paraffin cools down, it hardens within the pores and forms a waterproof barrier with a thickness of about 15 cm, which prevents further capillary moisture transport.
Safe, healthy, environmentally friendly
Our ISOTEC special paraffin is a special wax, very similar to the paraffin that is also used in the food industry, where the strictest regulations apply. Unlike renovation with chemically volatile components, our special paraffin is particularly environmentally friendly and harmless to health and can be used in living areas without any problems. Paraffin (parum affinis) means chemically inactive. This has many advantages and clearly distinguishes the ISOTEC special paraffin injection material as a subsequent horizontal barrier from other injection materials on the market.
Your advantages at a glance
- Reliable renovation success, regardless of how heavily soaked the masonry is
- Renovation without solvents and thus without harming the organism and the environment
- Your property is worth more after renovation
- A pleasant indoor climate is created after the renovation, for healthy living and a feeling of well-being
- Controlled drying of the injection area
- Permanent capillary barrier

Officially approved - scientifically confirmed
At ISOTEC we exclusively apply procedures that comply with our strict quality guidelines. After various scientific studies, the professor, doctor and engineer Jürgen Dreyer has also been convinced by the ISOTEC system: „In my studies and tests on moisture barriers, the treatment of construction materials with paraffin has always been the most effective.“
The WTA (German scientific-technical consortium for the preservation of buildings and monuments) has also certified its effectiveness. The Material Testing Office has credited the ISOTEC system with the highest effectiveness rate, independent of the degree of moisture penetration.

Frequently asked questions about the horizontal barrier
What makes the horizontal barrier with special paraffin from ISOTEC special?
The ISOTEC special paraffin is a wax that closes the pores of the masonry holistically and prevents the penetration of moisture. This procedure is only carried out by ISOTEC employees who have been specially trained for this purpose.
Is the ISOTEC special paraffin harmful?
Our special paraffin is scientifically tested and meets all the necessary quality requirements. There is no risk to your health or the environment.
